Goodie Farm

A small farm rooted in Cherry Valley.

For more than a decade, Goodie Farm has grown here in rural Cherry Valley with hands in the soil, using small-scale, intensive, no-till farming rooted in care for the land and the community around it.

We believe small farms matter. They grow food, knowledge, relationships, and a connection to place that cannot be replaced by a shipment arriving from somewhere else.

The project

Help us build 3 Littlest Big Farms.

Heat waves, dry winds, cold snaps, and sudden weather swings can undo weeks or months of work. Goodie Farm wants to add three small protected growing spaces so the farm can keep adapting without giving up the field.

Why this instead of a mini greenhouse?

They solve different problems.

A basic greenhouse or nursery can be a useful, lower-cost tool for season extension and propagation. A Littlest Big Farm is being developed for a different job: creating a small growing space where the environment can be buffered, measured, and actively managed.

A simple greenhouse

Useful for starts, season extension, and basic weather protection. Heating, cooling, ventilation, sensing, and water systems may still need to be added depending on the crop and climate.

A Littlest Big Farm

Combines earthen thermal mass with environmental controls, recirculating growing systems, and sensors. The goal is to create a compact farm that can respond when outside conditions become difficult.

This project is testing whether that extra control can make a meaningful difference for a working small farm.

What we know so far

We are not starting from zero.

From The Land has already built and tested Littlest Big Farm prototypes. Saffron has grown successfully. Lion's Mane mushrooms have grown successfully. Vegetable seedlings have been started and grown in controlled systems. Goodie Farm would take that work into the next phase: using the technology as part of a real working farm.

Why three?

Three spaces give the farm room to adapt.

One unit can help. Three let Goodie Farm separate crops and conditions, rotate production, and keep learning without asking one room to do every job at once.

We want to put our energy into what we can do: build, adapt, share what we learn, and keep this farm here for the next generation.

Small farms are facing real challenges. This project is about building and testing practical agricultural technology on a farm, learning what actually helps, and sharing those lessons so other small farmers can benefit too.

At the heart of it is love for the land, farming real food, and the community that has grown around Goodie Farm.
